The scroll of Esther, Megillat Esther, recounts the story of the holiday of Purim. How the wicked Haman plotted to destroy the Jewish people, and how the plot was miraculously foiled. We listen to the reading of the Megillah twice during the holiday. First on the eve of Purim Saturday, March 23, and then again on Purim day, Sunday, March 24. When Haman's name is read from the scroll, we twirl 'graggers' (noise makers} and stamp our feet to 'drown out' his evil name.
